Today our Groundwater Drops is DNAPL! Dense nonaqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) “are chemicals that are denser than water. Even a small amount of DNAPL can cause a toxic level of contamination for human health and the environment” (SOURCE WATER INFO). There are diverse issues influencing DNAPLs transport and fate in the subsurface, they tend to sink into the ground and even in small amounts can contaminate the deepest groundwater resources. “Contaminants associated with the release of DNAPL can, therefore, occur in four phases described as follows: Air phase - contaminants may be present as vapors; Solid phase - contaminants may adsorb or partition onto the soil or aquifer material; Water phase - contaminants may dissolve into the water according to their solubility; and Immiscible phase - contaminants may be present as dense nonaqueous phase liquids” (HULING & WEAVER, 1991). Today our Groundwater Drops is Artesian Well! Artesian Well is “a well tapping a confined aquifer. Water in the well rises above the top of the aquifer under artesian pressure, but does not necessarily reach the land surface; a flowing artesian well is a well in which the water level is above the land surface” (Groundwater Foundation). “Artesian wells can be sometimes flow to the land surface naturally because of underground pressure” (USGS, 2018).
